5 Tips For Organizing Your Home
|
Organized home increases you comfort level considerably. You enjoy more of the essential things in your home and you don’t have to stress out over declutter anymore. Here are some tips to achieve
organized home.
Work gradually
Completing home organization is a big task and you should proceed using small steps. Even if your home is a smaller one, it requires some time to do it properly. Don’t try to do it at once. Work on room by room and this task won’t become too overwhelming. If you feel that one room alone is a huge task, split it to various sub-tasks (like closets, drawers, shelves …). Complete them and soon you realize that one room is done and you can move to the next one.
Set aside some time to work on it
Ultimately it would be the best if you could work on this task on set times. Use same time every day to work on this bit forward. Reserve a certain chunk of time to do it and then use that time entirely for this task (for e.g. 30 minutes daily).
Decide whether to keep it, donate it, sell it or trash it
Part of the process is to decide how to deal with stuff that you find in your closets, shelves or drawers. The only way to do it is to go through every single object and decide what to do with it.
Take a big plastic bag and throw everything that you intend to trash there. Then take a box or plastic bag where you put all the stuff that goes for sale or for donation (separate ones for both selling and donation). Go through both of the boxes/bags and make a final decision of the goods if they are in good condition for selling or for donation. If not, put that stuff to trash bag.
Find a local charity for donate the stuff. If you are selling, find for example a local flea market to sell your stuff.
Now you are left with just the essential stuff. For example in your closet you might decide to keep your pants in certain place, your t-shirts in certain section of the closet and your suits or other clothing in some other part of the closet.
Every object has it’s place
It’s important to remember, that every object has its place. For example it’s quite natural to keep your books on a bookshelf instead of the kitchen table! However what works best for you can only be found out by trying. The main point here is to have a functional home which is easy to use and where everything is easily accessible. For example I can have some spare pair of blankets on a top-level of my closet where it’s more difficult to reach. However I use them rarely and I rather store them there than on a lower level, which is more suitable for everyday stuff.
Increase the usability (of the room)
After doing the initial organization operation, you can push it even further. I have found the label maker to be a very convenient for labeling all the boxes in my closet. It’s much easier to figure out afterwards what the box contains than try to open each one when looking for something. Or take care of all the various cables in your workroom (if you have one) by organizing the cables into neat bunches (go to your local hardware or furniture store to ask some more information). By this way you can keep your home easily organized after doing the initial organization operation.
Conclusion
By using these tips you can organize your home to be more usable and comfortable. You should keep organizing continuously to keep your home decluttered and clean. However that task becomes easier once the first organization operation is done.
