Home Organization For Busy People Review
|

I’m always more than happy to learn more about home organization related tips and tricks. This e-book written by Greg Payette taught me quite a few of new things which I’m already applying in my own organization
projects.
Overview
The Definitive Guide to Home Organization for Busy People
The Definitive Guide to Home Organization for Busy People is an e-book that sells for $29.97. It has 111 pages.
This e-book has the following parts:
Section 1: Organizing Secrets
In this section Greg lists some benefits of an organized home – all from finding your things quickly to clean your home in less time. Then he also mentions some tips of overcoming procrastination too (like “Touch it once” principle, which I immediately applied to my everyday actions). He also gives actual tips and strategies related to home organization: taking small steps (like 15 minute chunks) at a time, prioritizing and proper planning. All this stuff is important, since home organization is a big task after all.
Section 2: Three Rules of Home Organization
What’s been discussed in this chapter are the topics like “Touch It Once” technique, keep similar type of things together, organizing in small bits at a time or breaking bigger areas in our room into smaller ones.
Section 3: A-PACT ™. Make A-PACT ™ to Get Rid of Clutter
This is the main technique for organizing your home. The steps are simple yet effective enough: A-Ask, P-Pile, A-Analyze, C-Cash-In and T-Tidy Up.

Section 4: Opening Up The Entrance to Your Home
The fact is that the entrance is the first places that you, your family or visitor is going to see when coming to visit you. These tips in this chapter make your entrance more organized and effective. Finally the entrance gets the A-PACT treatment.
Section 5: Organizing Your Bedroom
This chapter is really divided into two sections: The bedroom and the closets in the bedroom. Also, closet organization is further broken down into sections about available closet organizers (and their pros and cons).
Once again, the A-PACT is applied here too.
Section 6: Organizing The Family Room (or The “Great” Room)
Family room is one of the most used rooms in our households. Here you can find some tips on how to keep it uncluttered with some small steps (how to handle magazines, videos, dvds…).
Section 7: Organizing Your Bath Room
Make your bathroom more enjoyable by for example keeping the counters clean or throwing old towels away. There are also tips on how to organize your medicine cabinet too plus other handy advice on organizing your bathroom.
Section 8: Organizing Your Kitchen
In this section you are going to learn how to keep your countertops clean, different storage systems, organizing your fridge or even your cookbooks. Lot’s of valuable information here.
Section 9: Managing The Paper In Your Home
We keep getting paper to your homes almost on daily basis. Then there is of course paper that already exists here. This section concentrates on how to handle bills and other important mail, credit cards and financial offers and junk mail.
Section 10: Attic Space
I don’t have an attic in my home but I’m sure to return to these tips when I live in a home which has one: what items to store there or what to avoid storing there. Also, how to handle items that have memories attached to them that are stored in the attic.
Section 11: Organizing Your Garage
Garage is also something I don’t have and in that sense I don’t have worry about it’s clutter. But like in previous section, one day this may change and here I can find information about what kind of storage systems work the best for your tools or how to divide your garage into smaller areas for a specific types of items.

Bonuses
There are six bonuses included if you buy The Definitive Guide to Home Organization for Busy People:
- Audio MP3 Recording: How to find time and energy and motivation to get (and stay) organized
- Quick and easy home storage and organization ideas
- Complete home organization workbook
- Special report: Being organized and prepared for emergencies
- Special report: 66 ways to save money
I took a quick look at the material (except the MP3, which I have to listen later) and especially “Quick and easy home storage and organization ideas” and “Complete home organization workbook” seem to be most relevant related to this topic. The first one shows some home storage solutions in pictures, which is good since I’m a visual person and I like to see things to fully get the idea behind the concepts. The latter one makes some of the e-book concepts clearer, since they too are explained in pictures and with examples. What we basically have here are a set of to-do/checklists related to your home organization project.
Then there are special reports (“Being organized and prepared for emergencies” and “66 ways to save money”). Although they are perhaps not directly related to home organization, there are some good tips on them (although on “66 ways to save money” there might be some US specific tips).
Pros
This e-book is very easy to read and understand. Naturally the bonus material clarifies some of the concepts even more. Also, the whole home (well, almost, see the Cons part) is gone through and the A-PACT ™ and “Touch It Once” techniques are quite easy to understand and apply. I also like the strategies presented here to tackle procrastination and to handle things in small chunks. This is very essential since without proper motivation and planning for the home organization, you might postpone it for whatever reason.
Cons
I can think of two things that could be improved here: One of the bonuses (“Quick and easy home storage and organization ideas”) would have been better to be part of the book itself because of the all the images showing various storage solutions. But since it’s included as a separate bonus, I can live with that. Another thing that I wanted to see is a chapter of organizing your workspace. Working at home is more and more common nowadays and because of that, it would have been nice to see what kind of tips the author had in this specific area of home organization.
Verdict
Get this e-book! It was easy to read and the principles presented here make lot of sense. By applying the strategies and tips told in this e-book, your organization project is easier to manage and complete someday. Also, the pictures and other additional material make the principles even easier to understand and apply.
