Once you have decluttered and organized your home, you need to have do checkups so that your home keeps decluttered. You can enjoy more of your home by start doing the daily decluttering actions and Home Organization For Busy People E-Book By Greg Payettepreventing declutter to show up in the first place.

Home ButtonCreate a decluttering mindset

I just hate living in a decluttered home so declutter itself is the trigger for me to do something about it. That’s why I made an decision to do something about it as soon as clutter starts to exist.  Stay aware of it and don’t let it accumulate – otherwise the decluttering operation becomes then much harder than it is supposed to be.

It takes a while until decluttering becomes a habit but once you have mastered this, you find your decluttering actions to become natural part of your daily routine. There is one thing to note however; you don’t want to take the stress of decluttering itself. What this means is that it’s okay to have some declutter in your home and it’s quite natural. But focusing on small daily actions is the key here; they make the most difference and prevent the clutter sneak back in to your home.

Home ButtonTake care of smaller things on daily basis

For example if you want to keep your bedroom decluttered, you could make your bed as soon as you wake up or put clothes into the closet after using them. Maybe your nightstand has a bunch of papers or books that don’t belong in there. You might want to take them back where you took them. Or if you have a kitchen table that gets messy because of the newspapers and magazines, you may want to clean your table before going to bed.

The main point here is, that event these small actions (when done as soon as possible), increase your comfort level in you home quite a lot.

Home ButtonTake care of bigger things yearly

In order for not to generate too much clutter in your home, you should do at least a  yearly maintenance check when you go through all you closets and storage spaces to figure out what is extra and what to do with it. Although this is a bigger operation and you may need to have hours (or even days) to do it, this task should be completed faster, if you have started doing the daily decluttering actions in the previous section.

I tend to do a yearly check-up to see if I have something I can get rid of or donate.

Home ButtonDo it proactively

Having a daily declutter actions is a proactive way of preventing the clutter to accumulate in the first place. But you could also decide if you really need something that you are about to buy. Also, if you buy something which replaces something existing one in your home (for example television set), have a plan ahead of what to do with the one you currently have (how to get rid of it, is there a way to donate it …).

Home ButtonPut items where they belong

This is simple step that may be very hard to apply but when making a habit out of this, it becomes much easier. As soon as you have finished using something, take it back where it belongs. Don’t leave your dishes to the kitchen table. Put them to a dishwasher straight away.  Put your shoes into shoe rack when coming into your home. Drive your car or bike inside the garage after coming back home (if you know that you are not using them again the same day).

I know, it takes some patience to do this since it’s much easier to just leave the stuff there after finished using it. But once you start to apply this habit as soon as you have finished using an item, eventually it becomes very natural thing to do and you don’t have to stress over it that much.

Home ButtonConclusion

I think my decluttering mindset has grown eventually – I used to live in a home with my stuff all over the place gathering dust. Then I just realized that I have to change and in order to do that, I have to focus on small decluttering actions on daily basis – proactively! By this way you won’t realize some day that your home is full of clutter again.

Doing some small tasks on daily basis like for example putting  your clothes where they belong or cleaning the kitchen table after dining are some small things you can do. You can keep your home decluttered with less effort and cleaning becomes easier too!
