Organize Your Bedroom
|
Bedroom is one of the most important places in our homes. That’s why it is important to have a simple and organized bedroom, which consists
of only the necessary things.
Bedroom is for resting and relaxing
There is just one object that takes the most of the bedroom space – your bed. It’s really the centre of that room and everything else should be positioned related to that.
To emphasize the header of this section – bedroom’s main function is resting and relaxing. It shouldn’t be your home office or shouldn’t contain any stuff that doesn’t belong there. For example in my bedroom I don’t have a computer or television there.
Nightstand(s)
I like to read so I have a nightstand next to my half of the bed (my partner has her own). On top of that I have a small desk lamp and the nightstand itself has some storage space to keep my books, occasionally some magazines too.
I favor small and convenient night stands. Less space and items they can hold inside of them the better, since only the most essential stuff should located there. And since bedroom is for relaxing, it suits the purpose quite well.
Closets
My counterpane is quite big and heavy so I like to have it in a easiest accessible place possible. That’s why I keep it on the lower level of my closet. The same space is equipped with a bar on top, where all my shirts hang. That bar consists of the shirts I like to wear on everyday basis. Shirts or suits for celebration are kept on another closet separately, so I like to categorize the clothing a bit depending of its usage.
My jeans and shorts are on the separate part of the closet (on top level) and both of them are stored either in their own boxes or not. If they are in boxes, I have labeled the boxes using my label maker.
There are really two sides of this storage solution. If they are in boxes and labeled, the closet looks neat and tidy, however it might be a bit difficult to reach the specific jeans or shorts within the covered box, without lifting them down from the level. However, without the boxes, they are easily accessible but might not look that neat. This is a matter of style and usability, so it can only be found out by testing this setup.
What should I wear today …
I like to have my clothes ready for the next day and I select the ones I like to wear before going to bed. This makes your life easier, since it speeds up your morning routine a bit. Even further, if you have a spouse and you don’t want to wake him/her up, the easiest thing to do is to reserve a space for your next day clothing in somewhere else than in your bedroom. You want to get out of there as quietly as possible and let the other one sleep without any interruption.
Miscellaneous tips
There are other ways of making your bedroom more comfortable. Here are some random tips for improving your bedroom:
- Invest to a good bed. It may cost more, but make a decision to save money a small amount every month. Eventually you are sleeping in a bed that makes you feel good and might give a good night sleep
- Ventilate your bedroom before going to sleep or after waking up if possible. Fresh air makes you feel better and your bedroom more comfortable.
- Invest to a good pair of curtains that darken you bedroom enough. I know that this makes me sleep better than sleeping in a room full of light
- Clean your bedroom often. Vacuum clean it and take your sheets outside frequently
- Change your sheets also frequently. It increases your comfort level considerably
Conclusion
I like to keep my bedroom as simple as possible. It serves only its main purpose – sleeping and relaxing. That’s why for example television and computer don’t belong to my bedroom. They have their own places somewhere else in my apartment.
